Buyer's Premorse
While it's still more than a month away from my birthday, there would have to be a major catastrophe to prevent me from getting my own Xbox 360.

While I am excited to finally get a 360 of my own, it comes with a healthy dose of concern. In what can only be considered a once-impossible act, Microsoft has managed to turn my sister into a full-time devotee of the system. There hasn't been a day in the last few months where she isn't talking about Rock Band or Achievements. While I can see the initial allure of unlocking achievement points (Giving even the lamest of videgames some kind of goal to strive for), you're still waving around a useless dick hat. She plans to have 10,000 Gamerscore points by the end of the year...but even if she had a billion points, it's still a useless dick hat.

I've also found myself having an issue with the games. Way too many 360 games are dark. Even a game like Bioshock...an FPS that doesn't take place in World War 2 Germany...is gritty. I should really become an advocate for the "Blue Sky In Games" campaign. Even more colorful games like Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night and Soul Calibur gained issues with their travel to the Xbox Live Arcade. And where the hell's Bionic Commando: Rearmed? That thing should've come out in May! It doesn't help that I don't have anything resembling a proper HDTV, either. I'm going to need a strong pair of glasses if I'm ever going to tackle Dead Rising or Lost Odyssey.

But I guess it's not all bad. There's Resident Evil 5 (Yep, complain about gritty games, then go right to the zombies. I'm such a feeb), Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Mirror's Edge, and maybe...just maybe...Infinite Undiscovery. And if all else fails, I can still re-purchase Psychonauts as a downloadable.

Still, I wonder how useful a community-centric system will be to an antisocial like myself. I'll just have to wait and see.

[Edit] Under all of that Xbox 360 ranting, I forgot to mention that next week's Game Center CX episode (July 16) chronicles the return of the Kacho, no doubt from his recent hospital stay. Using a machine translator on the episode title (おかえり!課長リターンズスペシャル) yields "Collar! Section chief [ritanzusupeshiyaru]" I think I see a phoenetically-ruptured "Returns" in there, but hell if I can decipher the rest.

I read "Okaeri! Kacho Return Special!"

Okaeri is roughly "Welcome back."

Yep, this is why I love machine translations.

Thanks muchly for the translation, though. I could always use the help when a new GCCX title is announced.
